God Used Everyone Available

Judges 4:11, 17-23
So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel (Judges 4:23).

God subdued King Jabin but He used men and women and circumstances. He used Barak and his army. He used Deborah, the prophetess. Then He used a woman named Jael and her family. He also used a family relationship and circumstances. He is a wonderful God!

Jael would not have been able to come into the story but for the migration of her husband from their descendants, who lived in Negev near Arad, to live by the great tree in Zaanannim near Kedesh. See Judges 1:16. God also used the relationship between Heber and Jabin, King of Hazor. Sisera thought he had found a place of refuge and fortress not knowing that it was the valley of his death.

Someone has said that Heber’s migration in verse 11 was a betrayal movement on his part, having calculated that the Israelites had no chariots of iron to win the Canaanites, but he forgot that God was with them. So he moved to be saved from the destruction and calamity that would befall Israel. If this analogy is true, then his wife was wise like Abigail to have moved, recognizing that God is at work to redeem the image of her family. Most importantly, to destroy the Israelites enemy.

Friend, are you available for God to use you to save others and defend His name if necessary? Let us pray.
