God Does Not Change
Malachi 3:6
For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob (Malachi 3:6).
What a joy to know that our God does not change. Situations and circumstances do change. Governments and political leaders do change. The world is waxing older and the sun is ageing. Climate change is ongoing. As humans, even our health and ages are changing. But our God does not change.
God spoke through the prophet saying, “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob” (Malachi 3:6). In another place the Bible says our God is, “the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17). God who created everything that is changing remains unchanged!
The benefit of this verse to us is that, what God is in the days of old, He is now. If He was merciful in the past, He is today. If He was a healer, helper, deliverer and a compassionate God in the past, He is now. Whatever we know God to be in the past, He is now.
Therefore, we can rest in Him, in His love for us and trust Him to take care of us and our own. We can run to Him with our concerns and be rest assured that all will be well because the Shepherd continues to meet our needs. He is the changeless One. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Rejoice in the fact that we have a changeless God.
- Praise Him for what He has done for you in the past and what He is doing now as you take your concerns to Him.
Hymn: Faithful One, so unchanging.
