Essential Consecration
Judges 6:24-32
… build an altar to the Lord your God on top of this rock in the proper arrangement, and take the second bull and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the image … (Judges 6:26).
Having encountered the Lord, Gideon has to take his faith to the next level. The idols in his father’s house must go down so that the presence of the Lord can fill everywhere. With this, the accuser of the brethren, satan, will have nothing to hold against him.
Afraid of pulling down these altars in the day time, he did it at night. Someone has said how you do is not what matters but that you did it. In this case, Gideon did it afraid. But he did it. And God’s hands rested upon him. He must go through this essential consecration to be ready for what is about to happen.
Friend, the good news is that the Lord Himself has sanctified us and continues to do so. The Bible says, “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23, NIV).
Our sacrifice is not the blood of bulls and goats but our Lord Jesus Christ. Our sacrifice is the fruit of our lips worshipping Him. Our dedication is a life that is devoted to Him; devoid of idol worship, and making gods out of God’s creation. May the Lord keep you in this state of consecration to Him in Jesus’ Name. Shalom.
