Don’t Quench It
1 Thessalonians 5:19-22; 2 Kings 2:23-25
Do not quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19, NIV).
When those kids mocked the man of God, they did not know that they were mocking the spirit of God upon Elisha. They were punished for it.
Friend, we need to be careful so that we do not incur the wrath of God. That is why Paul writes, “Do not quench the Spirit”. It is better to be humble and accept what we do not understand and ask God to reveal or teach us the truth by His Spirit and His manifestations.
We must not quench the spirit of prophecy or react to the spoken word of God with disrespect. God’s word is God and we must respect it. See John 1:1. The Scripture has made provision for us to know how to manage any situation we do not understand. When faced with a ministry or manifestation that we are unsure of, we can test it.
The Bible supports this. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Let us do this and then we will be bold to reject all false teachings and their evil peddlers.
In this case, we will not be under any judgment from God, His spirit and His word. God will bless us in return for standing for the truth of His word. Shalom.
