Don’t Get Drunk

Matthew 24:36-51
But what if the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? (Matthew 24:48-49, NLT).

It is the right time to remind ourselves of the need to keep in mind the Lord Jesus Christ’s second return. It is necessary to do this in view of the happenings in our world. We must be watchful and not get drunk.

We are living in the days of Noah. The actions of believers and our love for earthly gains and rewards, accolades, greed and material possession are enough evidence to believe we are in that day. However, Jesus warned saying, “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming” (Matthew 24:42). Let us beware and watchful. Our salvation is more precious than anything the world could offer.

Jesus further warned about the danger of spiritual and physical sloppiness. “But what if the servant is evil and
thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting
drunk?”(Matthew 24:48-49, NLT). To be drunk in this passage is to be earthly conscious to the extent that we beat
one another; hurt and harm one another because of what we would gain.

Friend, how many believers and politicians have fallen into this sin and trap? How many of us can be described as
drunkards in the light of this passage? It is time to cry out for repentance and ask the Lord for help. Let us pray.
