Do Not Be Unsettled

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
Not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter asserting that the day of the Lord has already come (2 Thessalonians 2:2, NIV).

Today, we continue our study of the second letter of Paul and his friends to the Thessalonians. It appeared that the matter of Jesus’ second coming remains an issue in this church community.

Paul told them, “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction” (2 Thessalonians 2:3, NIV). It means Jesus cannot come until certain things are fulfilled.

Paul allayed their fears by telling them there is no need for them to be bothered about the issue, Christ will return when it is time. He told them, “Not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter asserting that the day of the Lord has already come” (vs. 2, NIV).

Friend, if God says we must not be unsettled about something, it means the tendency to do so is there. It means that dwelling on such issues is not worth it. It is not God’s plan for us. Because lawlessness is on the increase does not mean God has abandoned us, it is all part of the plan. Our God is preparing for His final appearance.

Focus on Christ. He will come back for us at the right time.

Shalom.
