John 6:35-40
And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day  (John 6:40).

We will continue to lay the foundation for our devotional topic as we look at some definitions.

Several authors have attempted to define assurance and assurance of salvation. However, I found the Nelson’s Bible Dictionary definition to be simpler and easier to comprehend. It defines assurance as “the state of being assured; freedom from doubt and uncertainty … it refers to the believer’s full confidence and conviction that the penalty of his sins has been paid and that heaven has been secured as his eternal destiny by Christ’s death and resurrection”.

When we link this definition to our focal text then it is right to say that those who have given their life to Jesus Christ have everlasting life, which some translations refer to as eternal life. In addition, they have the promise of resurrection at the last day, which refers to life after death.

Friend, Jesus’ word, His death and resurrection are the basis for our assurance. The experience of salvation in God through faith in His only Son is the reason for assurance. It is the reason why we know that we have passed from death to life. It reveals that we have eternal security and life in Him while here on earth. However, if you do not know Jesus you cannot have this assurance. Think on these truths. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Thank God for access to divine truths in His word.
  • Do you know Jesus and have you believed in Him as He said in the passage that we read? If no, why have you not?
  • If yes, thank Him for the gift of salvation and the promise of eternal home.

Song: My soul doth magnify the Lord.
