Deborah And Barak

Judges 4:4-24
Then she sent and called for Barak …and said to him, “Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded, ‘Go and deploy troops at Mount Tabor…’ “(Judges 4: 6).

In response to their prayers God spoke to Deborah, the prophetess, who was judging the tribes of Israel at the time. Part of her duty as a prophet is to pray for the people and the land. She waits on God to hear Him and bring His word to the people. One day God gave a message to Barak, God’s chosen vessel, to lead the war against their enemy.

One of the things that caught my attention in this passage is the specificity of the instruction that God gave Barak. He said, “Call out 10,000 warriors from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun at Mount Tabor. And I will call out Sisera, commander of Jabin’s army, along with his chariots and warriors, to the Kishon River. There I will give you victory over him” (vs. 6-7 NLT). God was clear about the number and the tribe of the warriors to be selected.

God can call us and give us detailed instruction to manage specific situations in our lives. It reminds me of how He spoke to Gideon and led him. He did the same with David when he told him the route to take to fight the enemy.

Friend, if God did it before, He can do it again. We will trust Him to guide us step by step by His Spirit in us. Shalom.
