Be Alert
Isaiah 39:1-8
So Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good!” For he said, “At least there will be peace and truth in my days.”
Isaiah 39:8.
It has been observed that, “The first point of wisdom is to discern that which is false; the second, to know that which
is true” (Assorted Authors). King Hezekiah received the visitors with open arms because he thought they came to visit him for his recovery from sickness. Little did he know that the visit would lead to trouble in future.
He was carried away and showed them all he had. We do this from time to time when we let off our spiritual guard. We need discernment to know when to receive people with open arms and when to be cautious. We must be alert to the Holy Spirit to know the mind of God and how to act per time.
The mistake the king made would cause his generation untold hardship in future. Rather than pray about it, he felt it was okay since the evil predicted would not happen in his lifetime. By this, the king veered away from being a generational thinker. Could this also be the reason why our leaders and politicians continue to spend and borrow money that would take our grandchildren to repay or could lead them to slavery?
The lessons in this passage are numerous. Read it again and ask the Lord to teach you more. Be alert. Understand the times and discern who is who every time. A good man leaves good inheritance for his children not debts, death or war. Shalom.
