Assurance Versus Security
Philippians 1:3-11
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).
Having looked at what the Scripture says about our eternal security, it is good to compare security and assurance. The reason is because many of us are not walking in the joy of salvation, in the knowledge of eternal security and the fact that nothing can take us away from God. Our savior has promised to keep us to the end.
Yet, eternal security and assurance of salvation are two different concepts. While security refers to the fact that our salvation is secure, assurance, on the other hand, refers to our feeling and knowledge that we have eternal security. It comes by knowledge and experience. This feeling is a product of living by the word of God and the benefits that come with being saved.
Assurance is a blessing and we need to receive and enjoy it. Assurance is for the now so that we can withstand any element of doubts and confusion about salvation that the enemy may bring our way.
That is why Paul says, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). That is security and assurance in one package. May the Lord bless your heart with this joy and conviction in Jesus’ Name. Shalom.
Your Turn
