Judges 2:11-15
They abandoned the Lord to serve the god Baal and the goddess Astarte (Judges 2:13,Good News Translation).

Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy, talked about the last days and how men would be lovers of themselves. See 2 Timothy 3:2. Linked to the passage we read today, we could see that we are like the children of Israel too. Many of us have abandoned the Lord to serve other gods. While some are serving the god of money and position, others are serving the god of power and affluence.

We have forgotten what the Lord says in Deuteronomy 8:18: “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day” . No matter where we are and what we are, it is the Lord who is working in us and blessing us.

Many of us do dubious things and bow before idols for fame and acceptance. Because we want the approval of men, we compromise God’s standard. Let us not be quick to judge the Israelites. Let’s examine our lives and be our own judge ourselves because we are doing the same thing.

We have pitched our tents near unbelievers that their lifestyle has influenced us to follow other ways rather us influencing them to seek the living God and follow Him. May the Lord have mercy on us as we think on these things.
