Apostle On Earth
1 Thessalonians 3:1- 5
For this reason, when I could stand it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith. I was afraid that in some way the tempter had tempted you and that our labors might have been in vain (1Thessalonians 3:5).
Reading through today’s Bible passage, I love Paul’s sincerity and openness. I love his acknowledgement of the fact that he is an Apostle on earth not an Apostle in heaven. He recognized the fact that their work could be attacked. He knew satan would not relent in ensuring that they did not have success. He sent for someone to check on the Thessalonian church.
Paul was also sincere in acknowledging their fears. He said, “When I could stand it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith. I was afraid that in some way the tempter had tempted you and that our labors might have been in vain”. We can learn from this.
This is not a demonstration of weakness but an acceptance of reality. However, he did something. He confronted his fears. The team sent Timothy to Thessalonica to assess the situation; to know the truth so that they could have a recovery plan, if necessary.
Sometimes, I think we place too much burden on ourselves when we have hyper-expectation from people and ourselves. When we fail to recognize that others are human beings like us and could make mistakes, we put ourselves in position for disappointment. Let us learn from Paul and his friends.
May the Lord help us as we seek to live a good and productive life. Shalom.
