An Altar Builder
Genesis 12:7-8; 21:33
And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. (Genesis 12:8).
Abraham was an altar builder. He was a man who understood the importance of having a consistent fellowship with God. Several times in his story we read about Abraham building an altar for the Lord, to worship Him and offer sacrifices to Him.
The Bible says, “And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord” (Genesis 12:8).
What is an altar? An altar is a place of worship and sacrifice. It is a place where worshipers say prayers and offer sacrifice to a god or deity. In our case, we erect altars as a place of worship, prayer and fellowship with the Lord, Our Savior.
Friend, our altar is a place of intimacy and fellowship with our God. We worship and offer thanksgiving and prayers to Him. We also wait on Him to speak to us. If we are going to be who God wants us to be – loving Him and living for Him we must be altar builders.
This would help us to hear Him and be empowered to do what He says. When we do, we will be fruitful. How is your altar? How is the sacrifice on it? Fresh or stale?
Your Turn
• Lord, make me an altar builder so I can worship You with all my life.
