A Generational Thinker

Genesis 24:1 – 9
So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter. (Genesis 24:7).

A generational thinker is someone who thinks about tomorrow and his posterity. A generational thinker takes decisions being mindful of their consequences on him, his family and the generations after.

A generational thinker thinks about the promises of God and how it must be sustained so that his generations will continue to reap its benefits. Abraham was a generational thinker. He kept the promises of God before him. He pursued God and realized from experience that God cannot lie.

His commitment to God’s covenant and promises led him to the action he took in looking for a wife for Isaac. He told his servant where to go to get a wife for Isaac. He said, “You shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac” (Genesis 24:4).

Abraham understood the importance of association and its effect on fulfilling destiny. It is also important who you marry. Marrying an Egyptian lady could turn Isaac’s heart away from the Lord. Who knows? He could also migrate from the land of promise or walk away from the divine plan.

Abraham had walked the whole land and knew great things are in store for his next generation. Hence, the need to guide his son. Friend, let us be generational thinkers too. Let’s be intentional in guiding our children to the ways of the Lord. The Lord will help us.

Shalom.
