A Considerate Friend
Genesis 14:24
I will not take anything that is yours… except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion. (Genesis 14:23-24).
Proverbs 10:24 says, “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). Abraham proved to his friends that he is a friend that loves at all time. He told the king of Sodom, “I don’t need your money and goods but please take care of my friends. They came to war with me and they have delivered. So, let them take their share”.
How many of us can beat this gesture? This shows us the heart of Abraham and his love for others. We need to learn from this, we must care for those who help us in our times of need or those who helped us to get to the next level. God understands the reward system.
We must also learn to teach those who live with us to emulate this virtue. Many of us have lost good and godly relationships because we lack this virtue. We need to teach our youths to imbibe these virtues too. We need to be others-centered and not self-centered.
Remember the following when you choose your friends: The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Proverbs 17:17.
