Less Than Perfect

Judges 1:27-36
However, Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages … for the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land (Judges 1:27).

Partial obedience is no obedience but disobedience. Today’s passage is loaded with such divine truths. It gives us in few verses a run-down of how the tribes of Israel failed in possessing the lands God had given them due to one reason or the other.

Despite the word God gave to Judah in the preceding verses, they did not maximize it. In fact, verse 19 of our text tells us that the Lord was with them, so why did they fail to possess all that their God had given them? It was apparently due to fear.

They were afraid of the Canaanites’ chariots of iron. They did not take heed to what God told them, not to be afraid but to trust in Him who was with them. Life Application Bible commentary says that, “the chariots of iron were like new technology for war then just as the American planes for war”.  This scared them and they went back.

Friend, we do not have to be afraid if God is telling us to go ahead. The fact that the Lord was with them should have been enough. They had heard of what God’s presence did in the days of Moses and Joshua but they doubted. Someone needs to believe God’s word today. Do not allow whatever you may be seeing right now to destroy your faith in Him. God will deliver you, only believe. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray for yourself and believers around the world that we would have faith to believe God to the end.
