The Right Place, Right People

1 Kings 17: 8-16
Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” (1 Kings 17:8-9).

Friend, I feel constrained in my spirit to extend yesterday’s devotional thoughts. The right place is the place of favor. When you are at the right place you will meet the right people. Initially, things may not look good, but if you remain, convinced that the Lord led you, heaven will open and God will give you favor and blessing.

That was what happened to Prophet Elijah when the Lord led him to the widow in Zarephath. God told Him: “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you” (1 Kings 17:9). He obeyed and met the woman at the gate of the city.

Initially, the woman did not understand why she was asked to give up her family’s last meal; but when she obeyed she was blessed. The prophet’s obedience was also rewarded.  He was saved from hunger. What looked like a passing thing became more than a bed and breakfast shelter for the man of God!

Imagine if Elijah had not obeyed the instruction to leave where he was and go to Zarephath? Imagine if Ruth had stayed at home idle, not looking for work? Imagine what would have happened if you had stepped out and followed the Lord’s leading in your heart? We would be surprised at what God would do in and through us all. Let us pray.

Your Turn

  • Can you hear the voice of the Lord speak to your heart, reminding you of the dreams and direction that He has placed in it?
  • What will you do? Pray for yourself.

Hymn: Have thine own way Lord.
