His Parables

Luke 12:13-21
Beware! Don’t always be wishing for what you don’t have. For real life and real living are not related to how rich we are.
Luke 12:15, TLB

The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word “parable” as “a short story that teaches a moral or spiritual lesson: especially, one of the stories told by Jesus Christ and received in the Bible”. I like this definition. Jesus
used lots of parables to illustrate divine truths. Sometimes He used parables to teach the people the difference between good and bad.

From the passage we read, Jesus used parables to teach the crowd about the importance of laying up treasure in heaven, that is, keeping an account of good deeds. The parable also illustrates the importance of leaning on God and not trusting in our own wisdom.

The huge harvest the man’s farm produced was not the problem. God brought the increase after all (See 1
Corinthians 3:7). It was his attitude towards wealth that Jesus addressed in the parable to teach us a lesson. See Luke 12: 17-19.

The Bible says, “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked
for?” (Luke 12:20, NLT). Moral lesson: Respect and honor God for His blessings in your life. In actual sense, no one is self-made. Allow God to guide you in your decisions as you put Him first. May we not be a rich fool in Jesus’ Name.
Shalom.
