Divine Intervention At Bethesda
John 5:1-15
When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
John 5:6
Today, we will look at a story in John Chapter 5 to see how Jesus initiated the healing of the man at the pool of
Bethesda. I believe Jesus initiated the healing for several reasons.
First, I believe He had compassion for the man because he had been in the condition for long and he had no one to help him.
Second, He wanted to teach His audience that He could overlook our history to change our story. He also does not
need our history to bring us into a new future.
Third, He wanted to use the opportunity to teach the Jews that doing good on the Sabbath is not an unlawful thing.
Moreso, He has come to fulfill the law.
Fourth, Jesus used the opportunity to change our perspective about the Father. The Father is an active and present God. Jesus said, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working” (John 5:17).
Friend, let us take the time to know Jesus Christ more because there is more to know about Him. He is
compassionate and merciful. He sees us where we are and is willing to help us. Shalom.
