Jesus Predicts His Own Death

Luke 18:31-34; John 12:23-33
Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished … They will scourge Him and kill Him.
Luke 18:31, 33

Knowing that death awaits Him, Jesus informed His disciples about it. He predicted how it would happen. He was God by Himself that is why He was bold to tell them the outcome.

He said, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son
of Man will be accomplished … They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again” (Luke
18:31, 33).

Friend, only an extraordinary man like the Son of God can say this and still go through the growling experience of
the trial, crucifixion, and death. The anguish was real. He told the Father in John 12:27-28, “Now my soul is deeply
troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came! Father, bring glory to
your name” (NLT).

But the Father’s glory was paramount to Him. This is our Savior. This is the Jesus we believed. No other god can do
what He did for us. No other god can love us like Him. Let His love for you overwhelm your heart today. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Give praise to the Lord Jesus for His love for us.

Hymn: There is not a friend like the lowly Jesus.
