Alone With God (I)
Matthew 6:5 -13
But when you pray, go away by yourself, all alone, and shut the door behind you and pray to your Father secretly and your Father, who knows your secrets, will reward you. (Matthew 6:6, TLB).
We will continue our meditations on prayer as we look at
another purpose of prayer. Prayer is a time to be alone
with God. As good as family altars and corporate prayers are,
they must never replace the time that we spend with God alone.
When we come to God, we show that we love Him and desire a
relationship with Him. When we come alone, we are obeying
what the passage we read today says, “But when you pray, go
away by yourself, all alone, and … pray to your Father secretly,
and your Father, who knows your secrets, will reward you”
(Matthew 6:6, TLB). Other benefits include:
1. Rewarded for being in His presence. This could
include joy, peace, grace etc.
2. Openness in His presence. God is your Father and He
sees it all. He knows all your pains, your sins, the
struggles at home, in your marriage, at school, and in
your workplace. He is thus happy when you come and
tell Him.
3. He reveals your heart to you. David said “Search me,
O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my
anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-
24). How many of us can pray this prayer openly? This
is what you do when you come to His presence.
Spend time with God alone today. You will love it. Shalom.
