Contentment

Genesis 14:21 – 24
And Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the Lord God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ ” (Genesis 14:22-23, NASB).

The Bible says contentment with godliness is a great gain. See 1 Timothy 6:6. Abraham taught us that contentment is a virtue to possess. Following the rescue mission embarked upon by him and his men, the king of Sodom offered to give him all the goods, but he refused. Abraham said, ‘I am a contented man’.

He made the king of Sodom to know that he had gone far with God to realize that whatever God cannot provide for him, should remain unprovided. Though, already blessed, he knew that as a covenant man, God had promised to bless him more.

For Abraham, God was his source, he needed no man. He said, “I have sworn to the Lord God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’ ” (Genesis 14:22-23, NASB).

Friend, we need to come to this level of trust and faith in God. We must be discerning to know whose help to receive and whose help not to receive, that we may not fall into satanic traps we would live to regret. We must be alert to know when God has sent us helpers and when he has not.

Let us trust God in all seasons. He will supply all our needs.

Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Give thanks to the Lord for being the all-sufficient God     who can supply our needs.
  • Give thanks to Him for being your source. · Ask God to bless you indeed.
