Wanted, Good Servants
2 Kings 5:9-15
And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” (2 Kings 5:13).
I see Naaman’s servants as his friends. They were the ones who loved him. They were bold and truthful. They revealed his pride to him and what he needed to do to be helped. They were like the men of Issachar who pointed their nation in the right direction. See 1 Chronicles 12:32.
They told him, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” (2 Kings 5:13). I like the phrase “how much more”. They helped Naaman to change his perception about the prophet and what was expected of him.
I seem to hear them say, “What is your problem about the water? Is the water the issue or that you are clean? Please, go and wash and be clean! Getting cleansed is what matters not the name of the river!”
O! How we need friends who are strategically positioned to minister to us in every area of our lives. Many have made marital mistakes because they lacked quality friends and advisors. Others have lost strategic businesses or career decisions because they did not have wise men to advise them.
May the Lord save us from our pride. May we find true friends, employees and colleagues whom God will use to save us when we need help. Shalom.
