He Provides Bread

2 Kings 4:42-44
But his servant said, “What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?” He said again, “Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord: ‘They shall eat and have some left over.'” (2 Kings 4:43).

In Exodus 16 we read about how the Lord began to rain bread as manna from heaven for the Jews in the wilderness. So, he did not just start today. We were told that they ate manna for forty years in the wilderness. God still provides bread in our time.

The passage we read reveals another way that God supplies our need for bread. He can multiply the little that we have. He multiplied the little that the man from Baal Shalisha brought to Elisha and the sons of the prophets. One hundred men were fed. When Elisha told the man to serve the twenty loaves, he argued. “Shall I set this before one hundred men?” He said again, “Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord: ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’” (2 Kings 4:43).

In the gospel, we read about how Jesus fed thousands of people with fish and bread. They had left over. God is still doing this.  Recently, someone gave me a cartoon of fish that I knew only God could have told him of that need.  Unknown to the man, I had not received an income for some time, but God knew how to bless me.

Friend, I know God still provides bread. Can we believe Him to supply our needs too? Let us pray.
