Jehovah Jireh

Genesis 22:1-14
Abraham called the name of that place The Lord
Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided” (Genesis 22:14, New American Standard Version).

Abraham introduced God to us as “Jehovah Jireh”, the God who provides through his experience with Him on mount Moriah. God tested Abraham’s faith and loyalty by asking him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham passed the test. And God opened his eyes to see a ram for the sacrifice.

Abraham expressed his faith in God when he answered Isaac’s questions in verse 8. He believed that God could not and would not accept human sacrifice. It is an abomination. He told Isaac, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering” (Genesis 22:8).

Yet, he did not know how it was going to play out but he knew that God would do something. God did. Isaac came back alive with his father. A new covenant was established between two friends – God and Abraham. And that day Isaac learnt a lesson about the God of his father too.

Friend, God provides in an unusual way at unusual times. I believe our problem is that we have not studied about Him enough. We have not read His word enough to know that this God has a way of working. His way is the way of faith. It is faith in the Almighty, all-powerful God with whom nothing is impossible.

Let us seek to know Him more. Our lives will greatly improve.

Shalom.
