Tested By Diligence
2 Corinthians 8:8
I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others.
I love today’s focal text in God’s Word Translation. It reads thus: “I’m not commanding you, but I’m testing how genuine your love is by pointing out the dedication of others” (2 Corinthians 8:8). Friend, our diligence and dedication to the Lord can be tested. It can be tested by the Lord and by us.
How can we do this? We can assess our dedication by the level of our commitment to the Lord and His kingdom purposes. So, how diligent are you in your walk with the Lord? How committed are you to the things of God? How faithful are you to the promise you made to serve God and be a blessing to other people?
Paul reminded the Corinthians that although He is not judging them or commanding them, he chose to test their love for God by the diligence of others. This would help him and his readers would know if they were doing well.
For us, in as much as no one has the measuring lines to say you are doing well or not, we can assess our love for God by our dedication to Him too. We can also assess it by our diligence to one another’s welfare. Think on this truth and make amends so that our love for God will continue to grow stronger.
Shalom.
Your Turn
- Can you say that your love matches your diligence to the Lord and to the welfare of His people? If yes, ask for more grace. If no, why not?
- Pray for yourself as you are led
Hymn: Marvelous grace of our loving God.
