Don’t Bother

1 Thessalonians 5: 1 3
Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night (1 Thessalonians 5: 1-2, NIV).

I guess we have enough to worry about than to be bothered about the time and dates that the Lord’s second return would be. My take on the issue of when Christ would return is that we should remain focused on Christ, do our assignment and keep our garment white so that whenever He comes we are ready.

Let us leave the matter of when Christ would return to the One who wants to make the journey! That is, Christ Himself. When everything is ready, He would come. The good news is that He does not need our visa approval to come. He is the Master and He owns it all.

That said, the Thessalonians appeared to be bothered about this so Paul wrote to them saying, “Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you.  For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5: 1-2, New Living Translation).

We need this word too so that we can stay calm and let the Lord do what He needs to do at the time that He plans to do it. Our worry and anxiety will not change His plans. Let this word encourage you. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Thank God for this word. Praise Him for saving you.
  • Take your needs to the Lord.
