The Holy Spirit
Romans 8: 12-17
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8: 16).
Today’s Bible passage is one of the passages that bring assurance to our heart.
From the first verse of this chapter to the end, we are made to know who we are in Christ, what we have and what Christ has obtained for us. The chapter further reveals the fact that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Having loved us and saved us, God loves us now and will continue to love us. This is good news.
From the passage, we understand that we can have assurance of salvation through the witness of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit bears witness in our hearts that we are saved and that God lives in us. The Scripture says, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16).
When we give our lives to Christ, the Holy Spirit comes into us. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20). He never leaves except we deny the Lord and turn away from the path of righteousness.
This witness cannot be bought; it is a knowing in your heart. Do you have the witness of the Holy Spirit that you are saved?
Your Turn
- Pray for yourself as you thank God for the witness of His Spirit in your heart.
- Pray for the grace to continue to follow Him and His leading.
