Walk In His Commandments

2  John  1-9
He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son (2 John 9b).

Continuing from where we stopped yesterday, one of the ways we can demonstrate that we have the right doctrine is to walk in Christ’s commandments.  By this we mean, seeking to live within the boundary of His word. Whatever the word forbids, we must forbid so that we can walk in the path of righteousness.

For instance, His commandments say that we should walk in love because He is love. In another place it says we should walk in the light because He is light. How can we do this? When we walk in love, we will be quick to take any offence to the Lord and ask for the grace to forgive and let go. When we walk in the light, we will not walk in darkness and do the things that displease Him.

Remember, “He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son” (2 John 9b). In another place it says, “I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father” (2 John 4). We need great joy too. We will begin to experience this when we walk in God’s commandment. We will bring joy to God and to fellow believers too.

Friend, it is time to pray for the grace to do those things that please the Lord. Let us pray.
