Types Of Assurance

Ephesians 2: 1-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).

The New Testament referred to three kinds of assurance.

These include the full assurance of faith, understanding and hope. Each presents a dimension that helps us to increase our understanding of the assurance of salvation we have in Christ.

First, is the full assurance of faith which refers to our faith in God and what Christ has done for us which gives us access to God. Hebrews 10:22 says, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience …” We come in because Christ offered Himself as our sacrifice and High Priest.

Second, is the full assurance of understanding of the truth that we have obtained about Jesus Christ and His plans for us. Colossians 2:2 says, “That their hearts may be encouraged… attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ”. Knowledge gives you access to the ways of God.

Third, the full assurance of hope refers to an unwavering hope about our eternal destination and the hope of glory in Christ Jesus. Hebrews 6:11 says, “We desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end”. Let us not be ignorant. There is more to learn in God.
