Abide In Sound Doctrine

2  John  9
Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

As I was writing this section of the devotional, the Holy Spirit reminded me of the words of Jesus in Matthew Chapter 7. “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24). Friend, if we are to contend rightly we must be prepared by ensuring that we are abiding in sound doctrine.

The Apostles and the people of the early church lived with the consciousness of the fact that wolves will come with the aim of stealing God’s sheep. They knew that perilous times would  come so they prepared.

We must be ready also to build our faith and abide in sound doctrine.  John the Apostle writes, “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son” (2 John 9).

You see, transgression becomes easy when we are not standing firm in sound doctrines. Our hearts become an easy prey when we fail to build our faith. It will be to our advantage if we would heed this word and be prepared to fight errors and wrong teaching wherever we are.

May the Lord help us to pay attention to what He is saying to us in this season. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray for yourself.
  • Ask for the grace to do your part so that you will not be sifted by the wind of wrong teachings and doctrines.
