Ask For Help

Jude 4; 1 John 4:1-6
For certain men have crept in unnoticed… who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ (Jude 4).

Extending the thoughts we shared yesterday, I want to add that we must not be quick to accept any new ideas. Let us be careful and be sure that what we hear, read, receive as a tweet or comments on Facebook is of God and His Spirit. Ask yourself, ‘Is this correct? Do I sense the witness of the Holy Spirit on this issue?’

We are living in the era of podcasts, online Bible studies, seminars and trainings. And out of our hunger for knowledge we could become followers of “the certain men who have crept in unnoticed” into the church.

Cynthia has never been to a Pentecostal gathering before. When she went for a conference she was surprised to see some members of the congregation praying and singing in tongues. She was not comfortable. She thought this should not happen in a public gathering.  Brought up as a strict Catholic, she had never been a part of the Catholic Charismatic group.

Concerned, she met me in the office to ask for clarifications. We went through the Holy Scriptures together. In the end she understood the Scriptural background for what she witnessed.  If Cynthia had kept quite or failed to ask for help she might have been convinced to believe anything. But she was alert and sought for help. Friend, the need to be vigilant cannot be overemphasized.  Watch!

Your Turn

  • Pray for yourself. Ask for the grace to be humble to ask for help and test what you hear with the truth of the word  of God.

Song:  Light of the world, You stepped down into darkness  (Here I am to worship).
